SPECIAL CONFIRMED HONOR MISSION – US ARMY AIR CORPS - WWII MIA/KIA LT. ROBERT BERRY POWLEDGE – TIFTON, GA. 10/26/2013 Thats Right, a WWII KIA Honor Mission Lt. Robert Berry Powledge, 12/10/1919-07/17/1943, B17 Pilot. His plane was last seen near Helgoland Island in the North Sea being pursued by several German Fighters. The aircraft was reported lost with all on board. His family was informed he was MIA 07/24/1943. His status was changed by the Army to KIA a year later. He was posthumously awarded the Air Medal and Purple Heart. The family never accepted his death so no memorial was ever allowed. Now his last remaining “next of kin”, Margaret Culpepper Bergeron (Cousin) has requested that his Memorial take place as her 90th birthday gift, giving him the Just and 70 year overdue recognition his sacrifice earned. The US Army agrees. At her request and the request of the US Army we, the Patriot Guard Riders have been chosen to take part in Recognizing and Honoring Lt. Powledge with Full Military Honors in Tifton, Ga on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Oakridge Cemetery. We are to provide a Flag Line though out the US Army Ceremony rendering Full Honors to this Hero as an American Soldier “KIA”. Ceremony Starts at 10:00am SHARP. Weather conditions are Clear and Cool (Low in the 40s) warming into the 70s, so wear layers. There will be no escort. Large Flags will be Provided. Tifton, Ga.
