SPECIAL FOOTBALL REPORT FROM SCOTT To all the Burra faithful, the playing group are thankful for your continuing support and empathy for what has been an interesting season, one full of much learning and new found understandings of what needs to be done at the club within the playing group, and the standards set by the leadership of the club. I would like to begin this report with a heartfelt thanks to Phil Carman and his contribution to our club in 2014. It was a massive undertaking in moving Phil to Ballarat, away from his family and stable employment to take on a very young and inexperienced group with a lot to learn. Though the results did not show his work his experience and presence has certainly left a mark on the expectations that are being implemented at all levels. No doubt it was a hard and thought out decision by the committee with which the playing group has responded really positively towards. Congratulations to Wayne Sheridan on his appointment as interim coach and his passion and love for the game will be the driving force behind the rejuvenation and motivation of all the playing groups at the helm and you can all be assured that under his leadership the players will understand what it takes to play and be a part of, the Burra. Thanks to Shawne Dummet who will take on the helm of the Under 18s who’s endeavour has been remarkable in the face of great challenges. It will be a fresh finish to the season for all involved. We now have three weeks and two games to put in place the necessary parameters for next pre-season and it is wonderful to be a part of a group that is already excited for what next year will bring with it. Beginning with the development and implementation of a set of values that we want to stand for as players and as a club. Whoever the committee appoints as the next senior coach you can be assured that the playing group itself will put its best foot forward by getting the basics right so that the next coach will be able to complement what the players are beginning to do themselves. The support from committee members and the Burra faithful is what allows these guys to continue putting their bodies on the line for a club that has struggled for a long time and it is only upon the shoulders of those that are there every week and that have bled for the club, past and present that the players can change and confront the challenges that assail us, and embrace and celebrate the successes that are EARNT. “Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.” Helen Keller My humble thanks to you all Scott Bertus
