SPECIAL (Late Night) VISITOR: Jonathan Joseph, drummer for legendary guitarist Jeff Beck, stopped by Vics late last night! Jonathan is in Chicago a day early. He was scheduled to play a gig with Jeff Beck on Thursday night in Clarkston, Michigan, and a show tonight in Chicago as part of the double bill tour featuring both ZZ Top and Jeff Beck. Unfortunately, bassist Dusty Hill from ZZ Top took a spill on his bus and sustained an injury to his hip forcing the tour to be cancelled abruptly. ZZ Top was scheduled to play 13 more co-headlining shows with Beck through September 13th. Vic brought Jonathan to the shop close to midnight and gave him a private after hours tour. Jonathan was thoroughly elated and spent over three hours checking out all nine of Vics showrooms. Jonathan even played one of Vics own personal kits in his rehearsal studio. (A highlight was Jonathan ripping through his rendition of the classic Jeff Beck track, Space Boogie.) Jonathan promised to return and visit again when his show with Jeff is rescheduled later in the year. Jonathan began playing drums in church services at the age of six and obtained a solid music background through his mother who was the choir director. He attended the University of Miami School of Music and found it very easy to make the transition from playing gospel to jazz. Outside of his work with Jeff Beck, Jonathan has played with many acclaimed artists such as Alexander ONeal, Al Jarreau, Mike Stern, Bill Evans, David Sanborn, Betty Wright, Pat Methany, Randy Brecker, Ricky Martin during the viní la vida loca Tour and Joss Stone during the Soul Sessions tour. Jonathan endorses Sakae Drums, Sabian Cymbals, Evans Drumheads, and Regal Tip Sticks.
