SPERRIN HARRIERS FIRST IN MAGHERA, KILLYCLOGHER & MUSA Sperrin Harriers were out in force over the last week with almost 50 members taking part in six races. MAGHERA 10K Sperrin Harriers took full honours at Maghera last Tuesday night with Gavin Corey overall winner (34.26) and Pauline McGurren first lady (39.21). New members Vincent McAllister and Sean McDaid put in fine performances also, completing in 37.46 and 38.46 respectively. Mark Reid was first in M40 category in a respectable time of 39.05 with Ashley Hughes (39.31), Adrian McCann (40.19) and Philip Owens (41.05) also finishing strong. Kevin Devlin in a warm up for Edinburgh Marathon came in steady on 44.02, while Joe Loughran had a PB time of 45.15. Also running in fine weather conditions were Maureen Mallon and Briege McCann. A total of twenty one Harriers competed, registering times as follows: Raymond Thom (43.07), Martin Foster (43.54), Dean Corey (44.13), Jason O’Neill (44.35), Karen McElroy (49.16), Laura McCreesh (51.21), Laura Mitchell (54.24), Claire Rodgers (54.29) and Frances Cullen Wilson (57.52). Well done all! RUNHER COASTAL 10K A number of Sperrin Harrier ladies made the trip to the North Down Coast last Friday evening to compete in this ladies only race. After an energetic warm up well over 1,000 ladies lined out at a wet and windy start with weather conditions improving as the race progressed. Ciara Coyle, Maureen Mallon, Nicola McIvor Henry, Briege McCann, Nicola Rea, Alison Colgan, Laura Cushnahan and Bronagh McKenna all competed, and left a lasting impression on legendary Olympian Mary Peters at the barbeque afterwards! KILLYCLOGHER 10K On Saturday morning last, well over 200 runners set off from Killyclogher GAA Clubrooms in favourable weather conditions for this now annual race. Pierce McCullagh was the first Harrier home in a great time of 34.37 (4th place), and there was very little separating Marty McDermott and local man Paul McLaughlin who posted 38.50 and 38.58 respectively. The ever impressive Pauline McGurren delivered another top class performance, days after winning the Maghera 10k earlier in the week, taking first lady in a new personal best of 39:21, over three minutes ahead of the next lady. Other Harriers putting in strong performances were Ryan Treanor (40.33), Adrian McCann (41.12), Martin Foster (42.33), John McElroy (44.02), Fergal McElroy (44.34), Claire McCallion (49.09), Laura Mitchell (51.15) and Claire Rodgers (51.18) NEWRY HALF MARATHON Six Sperrin Harriers and well over 600 other athletes took part in the 13.1 mile race last Sunday. The first Harrier to finish was Philip Owens in a great time of 1.31.30, followed by Laura McErlain the first Harrier lady to finish with a PB of 1.37.18. Also producing great times were Karen McElroy (1.45.55), Bronagh Hawe (1.47.38), Natasha Henry (1.54.55) and Maureen Mallon (2.18.16). EDINBURGH MARATHON Congratulations to the three Sperrin Harriers who completed the 26.2 mile course on Sunday. All had a great day out with Kevin Devlin, Barry O’Neill and Russell Bell finishing on super times of 3:20, 3:55 and 4:00 respectively. Well done lads! PARK RUN MUSA 5K Patrick O’Neill 19.09, Martin Donaghy 20.48, Adrian Whittle 21.19, Toirleach Gourley 21.44, Patsy Hughes 22.48, Margaret Conway 25.39, Wendy Wensley 25.47 STUNNERZ ‘N’ RUNNERZ LADIES - less than 3 weeks to go to 14th June. BE A COACH Sperrin Harriers is expanding its coaching base and is offering members the opportunity to take up coaching courses.
