SPILT BEANS…. With excitement, he asked, “Are you going for Ruth`s bridal shower in Najjera?” That was last Sunday (13/10/2013) at the church entrance. Ruth (my fiancée) and I had attended a church service at St Francis Chapel Makerere. That is when we met her friend as he was going in for the next service. She introduced him to me, we shook hands and in an excited mode, he asked the million dollar question. Meanwhile her friends were organizing a surprise bridal shower to send her off. Being the tough lady she is, it had been hard to bombshell her in the past week since one of them (friends) had spilt the beans (secret). So they had no choice but to use me. I was supposed to make sure that she doesn’t know and bring her to them. Indeed I acted like I knew nothing but I was shocked to hear the dude with my own ears asking if she would go for her own bridal shower. Can you imagine? I looked at the guy and could understand him. Was he aware that it was a surprise? The Mukiga in me slowly “boiled” and I felt like………. him. So Ruth laughed and told me that it was a flop once again. I pretended like I wasn’t interested in such info. You know how we guys can be! With less than three (3) weeks to walk down the Aisle, we get busy every weekend dropping invitation cards and visiting relatives to inform them officially about the development. We had therefore planned to visit four homes on that day. So from church, we passed by my uncle`s place in Kisasi, talked for some little time and off we went to another one in Kyambogo. We had good lunch there and a lengthy talk with our hosts. At around 3 pm we were half way the visits. In the meantime I was communicating to the girls and my friend Mike via SMS. After a good prayer and blessings, we left Kyambogo. On our way I started thinking on how to take her to Najjera but got stuck. I thought hard and remembered that I was undergoing malaria treatment so I could use that as an excuse. That is when I started complaining of a terrible head ache. I stopped the car, claimed that I was weak to drive and told her to call my boy Mike to come and pick us. She did as instructed. I then restarted the car slowly and drove to the nearest super market parking. I requested her to go and buy me water together with headex tabs. When she stepped out, I called the girls and Mike and told them that we were in the neighborhood. In a spell, she appeared back and I took the water very fast together with two (2) tabs. She was totally convinced that I was not well. So we started moving slowly and met Mike. I got off the wheel and he took over. He first drove us towards the clinic but after around 100 metres, he claimed that he had forgotten something urgent in his house. I first objected but he also insisted that he had to go back. I allowed but emphasized that he drives slowly in the pot holes. We then turned and within a few minutes, we were home. Ruth rushed in to use the washrooms and the only word I heard in unison was “SURPRISE……” She ran out as if terrorists were chasing her. You know how girls can be! Oh… What a day it was! Everyone was happy but I was too tired. Lying to her was not easy. She is too analytical so one has to be smart to fox her. Things of surprising are stress so I don’t want to be part of them again. Nonetheless, I learnt a lesson in all that. Always take charge of your words! Whenever you get excited, calculate what you speak out. Once words are spoken, they can never be swallowed back. You should have seen how the dude at church tried to change the topic about the bridal shower after realizing that he had got the cat out of the bag but it was too little too late. Ruth had already known what was up. As already mentioned above, it took a lot of effort to alter her attention. So before mentioning anything, always mind the implications it may cause!
