SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE NEEDED IN SUCCESSION Some sections of the media today reported that ZANU PF bigwigs were now consulting spirit mediums in terms of who will fit in President Mugabes shoes finally when he calls it quits. This is a step in the right direction especially for a party that won the liberation struggle under the guidance of the same spirit mediums. During the protracted war against the racist regimes, the spirit mediums played an integral role in offering moral support and spiritual guidance to the freedom fighters, even telling them what to do and when the war would end. These are the old ways for the people that we will never depart from. By taking that route in trying to resolve their succession problems, ZANU PF demonstrates that they are a peoples party because we always consult spirit mediums be it prophets, nangas, fortellers, seers and dreamers. Its part and parcel of our culture. The stories also bring in a very interesting subject about the possibility of a woman president in Zimbabwe. It is quite unfortunate for our female counterparts and presidential aspirants that history is not in favour of a woman leader, King or Chief. All leaders in the past were males and our culture dictates that. A woman may not rule over us when there are competent men in the picture. Its a taboo. Even among the Vapostori, they say, Mukadzi haamiri pamberi pendaza.. This is because women are weak and are easy to arm twist. In the event that there is an aggression or an offensive, women are cheap to give up. Besides, no woman can compete with men in strength and bravery. Naturally women are risk averse and can not experiment. They are protective of what they know and are not futuristic. In most cases, women fall under the control of their husbands and are hand held by them. They can not make self decisions and act on them because they do not have confidence in themselves. For example, if you say kumusikana ndidewo, unonzwa oti ndichambondofunga. Then she goes to ask the aunt and a friend before she accepts. Usually people who support a woman leader for national leadership are actually the ones looking for power because they know for certain the woman will always be their subject. Its very unfortunate that our society is still highly polarized with numerous socio-economic and political challenges. Its a job for men not women and children. In the case of the 2018 elections, Mr Tsvangirai is most likely to stand for his party as Presidential candidate and ZANU PF can not make a mistake by allowing him to compete with a woman. Its like a man soccer team playing with the Mighty Warriors. Unless the MDCT prefers Paurina Mpariwa instead of Tsvangirai then we can consider seconding Oppah or Joice otherwise its a man for a man game.
