SPIRITUALITY & CLASSICAL MUSIC: CHRISTMAS IN BOYS TOWN Part III, December 15, 2014. The reason this post is my most favorite is not because of the piece of music, or the interpretation itself, even though I like both very much; it rather has to do with humanistic mission of the composer who has left a legacy that shines, with even more light, to this day. It is impossible to talk about Classical and/or Spiritual Baroque music without mentioning one of its most important composers, that is Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi, and piece of music Winter from the collection The Four Seasons is considered his most popular work. Vivaldi lived in second half of the 17th and the first half of the 18th century, his was Bachs contemporary and was very highly respected for his composing talent, so that even Bach has been influenced by some of Vivaldis work. Vivaldi served most of all as Catholic priest, there is significant amount of liturgical work that he has composed, and as far as employment, he spent many years in service of the orphanage for abandoned girls in Venice. Many concertos and choral compositions were composed for those girls, as he wanted them to be educated and to play classical music as a way of gaining new life and as a way of survival in world without love, in a world of poverty and fear. This is also main reason I have selected young female performance to play Winter, Ms. Julia Fisher is young German violinist who with her performance here is a voice for orphan girls from Venice during Vivaldis time. Many years, centuries later, history repeated itself, most of my American friends will be familiar with Boys Town established by Father Flanagan in 1917; many of you have seen Boys Town (1938) with legendary Spencer Tracys portrayal of Father Flanagan for which he won an Oscar, Mickey Rooney is in that movie also, playing one of the rebels boys .... Boys Town is still active organization and has since in fact expanded its services - this Christmas I dedicate this entire blog to the children of Boys Town as I am deeply touched by their life paths and what has happened to them ... It is my personal opinion that in the history of the humanity, Boys Town is one of those immense human tragedies that should never have happened. Thank you, Oly youtu.be/YKfuhLCVldg
