*SPOILERS* Okay, my take on past theories I feel have been cleared up in The Slow Regard of Silent Things Seriously If you havent read it just look away now!! Okay warning enough... Theory: Auri is of the Fae Nope. She did not demonstrate any kind of reaction when she turned the wheel attached to the iron pipe, or any adverse reaction to the iron pipes themselves (she referred to them as being eager at one point). Also while she didnt like the butter because it was full of knives, I think this is just a referral to the fact that it had been used before as opposed to any kind of residue she feels left over from the knives. Theory : Auri is the Princess (forgot name)?/A piece of the Moon/The Moon Hmm not sure about this, Im fairly certain after reading the book that Auri is pretty much what Kvothe believes her to be; a past student who cracked due to the way learning naming screws you up... There are many instances where she refers to how bad things happen when you impose your will upon the world. When she made the candle she did so using naming, and she was very wary of doing so but did it anyway because she loves Kvothe so much and he was worth the risk. Also she has skill sets that could only have been learnt at the university (i.e. Alchemy). There is also a vague hint I picked up on where she refers to her past and potential abuse that occured to her when she was younger and saner, which may have lead to or taken a part in her cracking when she learned how to name. I realise this may take away some of the magic of the theories to say that Auri is just a relatively normal girl, but to me this makes the story more beautiful. That there is a broken girl living under the University and Kvothe found her and is helping her for no other reason that he wants to, in some small way, make her life better, he has no ulterior motive. Also, I didnt realise how much Auri loves Kvothe until reading this... (And yes, she is definitely referring to Kvothe, if you read the part in book two where Kvothe meets her and is interrupted by Elodin then it matches up perfectly).
