Gustav Nyquist and Tomas Tatar each posted a goal and one assist for the Red Wings, who scored five unanswered goals to win their fourth straight and sixth in seven. Drew Miller picked up a score, Danny DeKeyser added two helpers while Thomas McCollum picked up his first career win in relief by stopping 7-of-8 pucks. Petr Mrazek worked the first 13:37 before being pulled after allowing three goals on seven shots. The Wings will host the Minnesota Wild tomorrow night. NY Rangers 5, Pittsburgh Penguins 2 Dallas Stars 6, Chicago Blackhawks 3 Winnipeg Jets 4, Arizona Coyotes 3 (SO) Detroit Red Wings 6, Buffalo Sabres 4 Multiple news outlets are reporting the Washington Nationals have agreed to seven-year contract with former Tigers right-hander Max Scherzer (SHER-zer). Terms of the deal have yet to be released but it is expected to be worth over 180-million-dollars. Scherzer has logged a 3.52 ERA along with over a thousand strike outs and an 82-and-35 record in his last five seasons with the Detroit. With their current roster in tact, the Nationals will sport a starting rotation consisting of Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmermann, Gio Gonzalez and Doug Fister this year. There are rumors they could look into dealing Zimmermann or Strasburg. Don Kelly is headed back to the National League. Kelly has signed a minor-league contract with the Miami Marlins after six season with the Detroit Tigers. Kelly played for the Detroit Tigers from 2009 to 2004 after making his major-league debut and playing in 26 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2007. Kelly hit .234 with 23 home runs, 95 RBIs and a .637 OPS in 545 games for the Tigers. He played every position in the field except shortstop for the Tigers and even appeared in one game as a pitcher. Michigans season took a turn for the worse on Sunday. The Wolverines will be without junior Caris LeVert for the rest of the season after he injured his left foot in a win Saturday at home against Northwestern. He will have surgery this week, on the same foot he had surgery on in May. LeVert is Michigans leader in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks per game. The Wolverines play Rutgers on Tuesday. Theyre 11-and-7 overall and 4-and-2 in the Big Ten. Corey Petros scored 19 points, Kahlil Felder dished out a career-high 13 assists, and Oakland rolled to an 83-68 victory over Division III Albion on Sunday. Petros was 8 of 8 from the floor and had four assists. Jalen Hayes finished on 7-of-9 shooting on his way to 17 points and grabbed five rebounds. Dante Williams had 10 points and Collin Weaver chipped in nine for Oakland (7-12). Zach Hurth scored 15 points, all from beyond the arc, and was the only Albion player in double figures. The Spartans face Penn State on Wednesday from the Breslin Center. Tip is at 7 p.m. on the Big Ten Network. MSU is 12-and-6 and 3-and-2 in the Big Ten after a loss to Maryland on Saturday. The Nittany Lions come in at 12-and-6 as well but are 0-and-5 in the conference. (15) North Carolina 68, Virginia Tech 53 (23) Northern Iowa 60, Missouri St 46 Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Golden Tate have been added to the 2015 Pro Bowl. Stafford, who will replace Broncos QB Peyton Manning, is the first Lions signal-caller to play in the Pro Bowl since Greg Landry in 1972. Tate will replace Eagles wideout Jeremy Maclin due to personal reasons. This marks the first season that five Lions were named to the Pro Bowl since 2000. Wide receiver Calvin Johnson, safety Glover Quin and defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh were also selected to the Pro Bowl, which will be played next Sunday at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, site of Super Bowl XLIX. It appears Teryl Austin will remain the Detroit Lions defensive coordinator for at least one more season. According to multiple reports, the Atlanta Falcons have settled on hiring Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, even though the move cant be made official until after the Super Bowl. The most significant indication the Falcons are going with Quinn is the teams decision to hire Kyle Shanahan as offensive coordinator, according to ESPN. In 2014, Detroit finished second in total defense, second in scoring defense, first against the run while ranking in the top 10 in sacks, turnovers and third-down conversion percentage. The Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots secured spots in Super Bowl 49 on Sunday. The defending champion Seahawks advanced to the NFL title game with an improbable 28-22 overtime win over the Green Bay Packers in Seattle. After trailing by 12 late in the fourth quarter, Russell Wilsons 35-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Kearse 3:19 into OT gave Seattle the comeback win. Meanwhile, the Patriots cruised to their eighth Super Bowl appearance in franchise history with a dominating 45-7 win over the Indianapolis Colts. New England never trailed and outscored Indy 28-0 in the second half. The Pats and Seahawks will square off in the big game in Glendale, Arizona on Sunday, February 1st. The Detroit Pistons face the red-hot Hawks today in Atlanta. Tip-off is 2:30 p.m. Detroit is 16-and-25 after a win over the Sixers on Saturday, and have won 11 of their last 13 games. The Hawks have won 12 straight, including a three-point win over Detroit at The Palace last week. They have the best record in the Eastern Conference at 33-and-8.
