SPORTS PERFORMANCE CENTER DIRECTOR Eastside Family YMCA 1835 Fairport Nine Mile Point Road Penfield, NY 14526 Salary Range: $36,000-$38,000 Grade: 36 GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Senior Director of Health and Wellness, the Sports Performance Center Director (the Director) is responsible for the administration and direction of the Sports Performance Center (SPC) and supervision of the SPC Staff. The candidates key function is to build strong lasting relationships with members and employees that will build healthy lifestyles. The Director will assure that programs, facilities, and objectives of the YMCA of Greater Rochester exceed all stated goals. QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a bachelors degree in Exercise Science or equivalent, as well as experience in managing facilities, equipment, budget and staff. The candidate should have a thorough knowledge of health fitness programs, knowledge of best practices associated with team training and Olympic training, National Certification as a personal trainer from an approved organization which currently includes ACE, ACSM, NSCA and NASM, and will be expected to obtain all relevant and required YMCA fitness certifications. Candidates must possess good organizational, communication, and supervisory skills. LEADERSHIP COMPETECIES: Values: Models and teaches the Ys values. RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop the annual operation objectives for the SPC and other assigned program responsibilities. Actively pursues new trends and community opportunities in health and fitness. Meet the goals of the SPC Enhancement Enrollment budget maintaining appropriate levels of membership units, developing physical activity plans, and screening all new SPC members. Work with the Senior Director to develop the annual income and expense budget for the SPC. Administers the budget and exercises necessary controls to assure operations are carried out in a balanced fiscal position. Serve as the staff liaison assigned to appropriate volunteer committees and subcommittees and assume a leadership role in the Annual Campaign and the United Way Campaign fund raising. Develop and manage the daily schedule of the SPC. Programs will include but are not limited to; daily workouts, one-on-one and small group personal training, sports specific training (including working with teams), Power and Performance classes, GRIT, and open times. Participate in running programs for functional fitness classes, small group, and team trainings as necessary. Assume a proactive role, taking lead in SPC in all areas including staff development, equipment needs, program development, safety protocols, marketing, and appearance of room, response to members, broken equipment, and cleanliness. Work to innovate, manage, promote, and progress the SPC programming through member feedback. Actively pursue new trends and community opportunities in functional training. Recruit, hire, train, supervise, coach, and evaluate all staff and volunteers related to the SPC in partnership with the Sr. Director of Health and Wellness. Conduct all appropriate staff trainings and meetings. Insure that all program operation is consistent with Association procedures, including; emergency, insurance, accident, purchasing, personnel, and accounting systems. Develop policies and procedures for SPC as needed. Direct the scheduling, maintenance, and repair of the SPCs facilities and equipment. Actively pursue training, learning opportunities and certifications as they relate to job responsibilities with special attention to trainings that will help increase the safety and effectiveness of the SPC. Participate in branch and Association-wide assignments and special responsibilities as designated by the Executive Director and Sr. Director of Health and Wellness. Work within the community to foster a positive image to encourage good public relations. Obtain/maintain all required certifications. All other duties as assigned. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift Must be able to bend and stoop occasionally Must be able to lift 50 pounds occasionally Must be able to appropriately demonstrate and/or coach participants EFFECT ON END RESULT: 1. Broad-based and varied programming with high levels of participation and satisfaction of all aspects of the SPC. 2. Maintain a safe, clean, and functional SPC. Sound administration of the SPC in purposeful and well-coordinated programs, good community relations, sound financial and records systems for all programs. 3. The YMCA will be recognized by the community as providing excellent service to all who walk through our doors or contact us by phone. 4. The YMCA will effectively connect and build relationships with its members and the community, resulting in increased member enrollment and retention. 5. Strong relationships are built between staff and member that will increase membership retention.
