SPORTS UPDATE WITH EMMAH ATAI: Ashley Cole wiped away tears as he, Frank Lampard and John Terry walked lap of appreciation around Stamford Bridge after Chelseas 0-0 draw with Norwich yesterday. While all three players have been rumored to leave the Blues over the summer, Terry and Lampard are likely to stay. Not so for Cole, who at 33, started only 14 matches in the Premier League this season, losing his starting role to Cesar Azpilicueta. Arsene Wenger says he has never had any doubt that he will remain as Arsenal manager beyond the summer. Wenger moved to reassure supporters he will sign a new contract - once the season is complete, as pledged - following his sides 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion. Meanwhile, Wenger confirmed loan midfielder Kim Kallstrom will return to parent club Spartak Moscow in the summer, before saying he will do everything in his power to retain Bacary Sagna and Lukasz Fabianski, whose contracts are both due to expire at the end of the season. The Premier League will not take any further action against Sunderland, despite three clubs writing a joint letter asking why they were not docked points for fielding an ineligible player. Sunderland were fined substantially for playing Ji Dong-won in four top-flight matches when he did not have international clearance from FIFA at the start of the season. But they were not docked points as several clubs were — including AFC Wimbledon, deducted three points a week ago, and Altrincham, who lost 18 points — for the same offence. After the seventh home defeat of a wretched Premier League campaign against Sunderland on Saturday, Manchester United will be desperate to make amends when they host Hull City on Tuesday. United last lost seven times at home in the 1973-74 season, when they were relegated to the old Division Two, and their 1-0 loss to Sunderland also appears to have ended their chances of sneaking into the Europa League. Brendan Rodgers says patience is the key to perfecting the attacking style he wants his Liverpool side to play. The Reds travel to Crystal Palace on Monday aiming to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat by Chelsea that put Manchester City back in charge of the title race. They face another defensively stubborn team after Jose Mourinho successfully parked two buses at Anfield. ATHLETICS: South African athlete Oscar Pistorius was broken after shooting his girlfriend, his neighbour has said, as the murder trial resumed after a two-week break. Johan Stander was the first person the athlete called after shooting Reeva Steenkamp on Valentines Day last year. TENNIS: Former British number one tennis player, Elena Baltacha has died of liver cancer, aged 30. Born in Ukraine and raised in Scotland, Baltacha revealed she had the illness in March this year. Baltacha, who was British number one for nearly three years, retired from the sport in November 2013. FUFA SUPER LEAGUE: The FUFA super league 2013/14 title will be decided on Tuesday after the defending champions, Kampala City Council (KCC) were held to a non scoring draw by Kira Young at Namboole Stadium yesterday. With now one game remaining, KCCA finds themselves in a must win situation against 16 time record winners, SC Villa on Tuesday as Victoria University plays the last game against Bright Stars at Namboole Stadium on the same day. At the Phillip Omondi stadium in Lugogo, Proline football club joined CRO as the second side to be officially relegated to the FUFA Big league next season. Proline lost to Jinja based side, Bul after a 0 – 1. An own goal from Ali Mbogo following Martin Kivumbi’s tempting cross in the area condemned Proline to their 19th loss of the season. At Kavumba recreational stadium, Vipers won 3 – 0 over home side, Soana. Joseph Mpande netted a brace in the game. KICK-BOXING: Umar “The Pain” Semata beat Egyptian teenager, Abdallah Hussein on points to claim the World Boxing Council Muay Thai Belt at Natete shopping park yesterday night. The judges ruled 49-46, 48 - 46 and 49 - 47 in favor of the Ugandan who is based in Thailand. Semata last year claimed the vacant World Boxing Council International Muay Thai belt at Kyadondo rugby club after beating Australian Rhys Karakyriacos. MPU MASAKA RALLY: Former National Rally champion (NRC) Ronald Ssebuguzi extended his lead at the top of the NRC log after clinching victory in the MPU Masaka Rally, the third event of the 2014 calendar. Sebuguzi beat rivals Duncan “Kikankane” Mubiru and Jonas Kansiime after completing the 290km event in two hours, twenty four minutes and twenty six seconds. Mubiru winner of the season’s first event in Mbarara came second after posting 2:29:40. Kansiime followed closely in third place after clocking 2:43:45 while Peter Kakaire, Fred Wampamba and Geoffrey Nsamba completed the top six in that order. With five rounds yet to be done, Sebuguzi leads the standings with 250 points having attained his first victory of the campaign followed by Kansiime (200 points) and Mubiru (175pts). Next on the NRC calendar is the Southern Motor Challenge Rally more likely to be staged in areas of Mukono or Luweero.
