SPORTS UPDATE WITH EMMAH ATAI: INTERNATIONAL SCENE; F1 champion Michael Schumacher has left hospital in Grenoble and is no longer in a coma, his family says.The 45-year-old German will continue his rehabilitation at an undisclosed location, they said in a statement. Manchester United have agreed personal terms with Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen but Arsene Wenger could yet delay a transfer. Reports of United’s interest in the 28-year-old Belgian emerged over the weekend with Louis van Gaal now one step closer to making his first major Reds signing after successful talks. Vermaelen has let Wenger know he wants to quit the club after falling down the pecking order and spending most of last season on the Arsenal bench. Arsenal could be set to miss out on striker Alvaro Morata after Wolfsburg submitted a £15.9m offer for the Real Madrid 21-year-old. On a fantastic note though, Costa Rica forward Joel Campbell has confirmed he will return to Arsenal after the World Cup in Brazil this summer. Campbell has yet to feature for the Gunners having spent the last three seasons out on loan with Lorient, Real Betis and Olympiakos following his arrival from Saprissa in August 2011. Athletic Bilbao are interested in a cut-price move for Spanish defender Nacho Monreal, 28, who joined Arsenal for £8m in 2013. Crystal Palace, Sunderland and Aston Villa are showing interest in Marseille midfielder Morgan Amalfitano, 29, who impressed on loan at West Brom last season. Sunderland are close to signing Romania goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon, 27, who was recently told that his contract would not be renewed at Manchester City. NBA: San Antonio Spurs won their fifth NBA Championship yesterday, beating Miami Heat 104-87 to win the best-of-seven series by four games to one. Kawhi Leonard continued his excellent form to score 22 points and 10 rebounds in game five and was named the Most Valuable Player of the finals. The 22-year-old, is the youngest finals MVP since team-mate Tim Duncan in 1999. LOCAL SCENE: Kenya’s Jaspreet Chatthe clinched victory in the Oryx Energies Rally of Tanzania of 2014 to move to second place on the 2014 ARC standings. The Mitsubish Lancer EVOX driver who was navigated by Zambia’s David Sihoka was won 10 out of the 15 competitive sections of the fourth round of the 2014 Africa Rally Championship that kicked off with a Super Special Stage (SSS) in Tazara. Not more than 13 drivers out of 19 drivers that started the rally managed to complete with Ugandan rally ace Hajji Abdul Sempebwa amongst the finishers. Sempebwa finished seventh overall but third in the ARC category thus earnING his maiden points of the season. Duncan ‘Kikankane’ Mubiru and Shafik Ssemujju were part of the causalities that failed to complete the event that also saw former champion Essa Mohammed and Rwanda’s Giancarlo Davite bow out before the final sections.
