SPORTS UPDATE WITH EMMAH ATAI: Liverpool have confirmed the capture of striker Divock Origi from Lille as Brendan Rodgers makes his sixth summer signing at Anfield. The 19-year-old striker will immediately be loaned back to the French club for the coming season. Liverpool is one of the greatest clubs in the world and Im very excited to be part of this great history, Origi told the clubs official website. Everton midfielder Ross Barkley has signed a four-year contract extension with the club. The 20-year-old scored six Premier League goals last season and was part of the England squad at the World Cup finals in Brazil. Manager Roberto Martinez said: It is a four-year deal which reflects his new role and his development. This is as big news as we could get. Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby has admitted he seriously considered quitting football last season after suffering a string of injuries. Diaby, 28, has played fewer than 1,000 minutes in the Premier League over the last three campaigns and was sidelined again last season when hit by knee ligament damage. Diaby has been forced to battle back from a series of injury problems since moving to Arsenal in 2006, but said his return to action towards the end of last season had boosted his confidence. Manchester Uniteds hopes of signing Arturo Vidal appear to have taken another hit with Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri saying the midfielder will stay at the club. Louis van Gaal is reportedly keen to make Vidal his third summer signing following the arrivals of Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera at Old Trafford. However, Allegri, who replaced Antonio Conte at Juventus earlier this month, has revealed Vidal is happy to remain in Turin. Nigerian gold medallist Chika Amalaha has been provisionally suspended from the Commonwealth Games for failing a drug test. The 16-year-old won weightlifting gold with a combined total of 196kg in the womens 53kg category. Her A sample was found to contain amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide, which are both prohibited as diuretics and masking agents. Amalaha will have a B sample tested tomorrow. However she denies knowingly taking any banned substance.
