SPORTS UPDATES: RESULTS FROM NOVEMBER 6, 2013 GIRLS VARSITY VOLLEYBALL (from the team) After receiving a first round bye in Conference 33 tournament, the #1 seeded Maggie Walker girls varsity volleyball team beat the visiting #5 Bruton Panthers 25-22, 25-22, 25-19 on Wednesday evening. Sarah Dishman had 19 assists, 4 digs, 2 aces and 2 kills. Caitlin Swecker led all hitters with 9 kills and added 5 aces and 5 digs. Carley Leckie recorded 9 digs, 7 aces, and 4 kills. Sydney Barksdale had 8 digs and 4 kills. With the win, the Dragons advance to the Conference championship match tonight at Maggie Walker at 6 pm. BOYS VARSITY VOLLEYBALL (from TD) Matt Reichert had nine kills and six assists, and Kynan Studdard added seven kills and three aces as Maggie Walker moved on to the Central 2 championship by sweeping Petersburg. Christian Goodwin also had seven kills for the Dragons. Maggie Walker will play Colonial Heights in the Central 2 finals tonight at Atlee at 5:30 pm. CROSS COUNTRY (from TD) Maggie Walker began what it hopes to be a winning tradition as the Dragons swept the individual and team titles at the 2A East Region meet at Panorama Farms in Earlysville. Daisy Banta won the girls title with a time of 18:54, and Alex Fleckenstein won the boys crown with a time of 15:59.
