SPTC CLLRS WANT SECOND BTV CHANNEL Councillors for Selebi Phikwe Town Council (SPTC) have adopted a motion requesting government to set up a second Botswana Television (Btv) channel. The mover of the motion, councillor for Ikageleng Phase II, Mr Lekang Mokokomane requested the SPTC to recommend to government through the Ministry for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration to consider setting up a second Btv channel to enhance information dissemination and entertainment. Mr Mokokomane stated that if another channel was introduced, it would help produce and air other programmes as well as cover other events that did not appear on the state owned television. Councillor for Botshabelo West, Mr Kosi Mashaba who supported the motion said the second channel would enhance democracy. Mr Mashaba said the channel will not only focus on current government leadership but will also cover other opposition parties… … Meanwhile nominated councilor, Mrs Mmapula Phuduhudu opposed the motion stating that there was no need to setup another channel adding that Btv had enough space to introduce other programmes that might have not had the chance to be aired. For instance, she said France 24 was aired every day and other programmes could be added to replace France 24. Full story: dailynews.gov.bw/news-details.php?nid=5364
