SPURS 1-2 LEICESTER - MAURICIOS VERDICT Mauricio Pochettino pinpointed the failure to score a second goal as the main reason for our 2-1 FA Cup loss against Leicester City on Saturday. After a tricky start where Michel Vorm made two world-class saves to deny the Foxes, we started to control proceedings and took the lead through Andros Townsend’s penalty on 19 minutes after Roberto Soldado was brought down. Erik Lamela went close and Mark Schwarzer did well to save from Roberto as we led 1-0 at the break. Schwarzer kept out Lamela twice in the second half but Leicester were always in the game and equalised in the 83rd minute through Leonardo Ulloa. The visitors then snatched victory in added time as Jeffrey Schlupp’s close-range volley squeezed past Michel. “I’m very disappointed because I thought we played well,” said Mauricio. “The problem was we didn’t kill the game and you need to kill the game. “We gave the opportunity to Leicester to stay alive in the game and in the last 10 minutes we lost everything we made in the first 80 minutes. “That’s why I’m disappointed and a little upset because we wanted to go to the next round. Now, the result has gone and we need to focus on the next game.” The next game is huge as a place at Wembley is at stake as we travel to Sheffield United in the second leg of our Capital One Cup semi-final, leading 1-0 from the first leg. “We need to show character and we need to go to Sheffield and try to get the victory,” added Mauricio, who also had a word for Michel. “Michel has experience and is a strong character. This is football. I’m happy with his performance. We’re disappointed with the result because we wanted to go through to the next round.”
