SPURS 2-2 WBA U18S - KIERANS VERDICT Posted by Tottenham Hotspur on 15 September 2014 - 11:12 Kieran McKenna assessed Saturday’s 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League in three parts. Christian Maghoma in action 2/2 Christian Maghoma in action Quickfire goals from Lloyd Ross and Cy Goddard gave our Under-18s a 2-0 first half lead at the Training Centre, while the latter and Shayon Harrison – twice – went close as the match neared its conclusion. However it was the period in between, in which the Baggies scored twice in five minutes through Tahvon Campbell and Andre Wright, that Coach Kieran singled out as being the toughest part of the game for us. “There were very different spells in the game,” he explained after our third successive league draw. “The first 25 minutes was pleasing, we scored the two goals and were in complete control of the game, and I was pleased with the last 25 minutes too. We had control again and looked the more likely to score. “The disappointing spell was the bit in between. We struggled to get hold of the game in that period, they physically dominated us and we didn’t impose ourselves technically the way we would expect our players to do, so there were mixed emotions. “I was pleased with the way we finished, the substitutes made good impacts coming off the bench and we looked more likely to score in the closing stages, so they get credit for the fact they got momentum back. It was just unfortunate that we weren’t able to do it earlier in the game when we were still ahead. “The lesson for the players today was about being able to impose yourselves when a team is coming after you physically and coming at you high up the pitch. They’ve got to be able to deal with that, keep the ball, maintain possession and win their respective individual battles. Today we didn’t do that in that period and it was disappointing in that respect.”
