SRINAGAR 21-08-13: Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Gilani termed present situation in Shopian town as grim and explosive and said that since August 17 police has launched a massive crackdown against students and youth and forcing scores of them to go for hiding. Syed Ali Geelani while blaming police, said that they are asking for huge sum as ransom from arrested youth and threaten to book under Public safety Act ,in case of non-payment of the said amount. Wedensday,Hurriyat Chairman in his statement while stressing for immediate release of detained youth,asked police to stop bullying and not to compel people to show resentmentand warned to stop arrests forthwith.Syed Ali Geelani in detailed report disclosed that problem actually started on 15th August , when pro-freedom people of Shopian town objected those few people for their participation on 15th August celebrations. As reported by people, said Syed Ali Geelani that since then top brass police officers have waged awar against people and with the result, normal functioning of education department and civic life was badly disrupted. Syed Ali Geelani while commenting over grim situation in Shopian said, that freedom loving people and respected citizens called a meeting on August 19,but police foiled the meeting and even the meeting could have started, police resorted to tear gas shelling. Syed Ali Geelani while blaming police,said that actually police wanted to take revenge and is responsible for present turmoil in Shopian. The hunt for youth continues ,said Syed Ali Geelani and relatives of dozens of those youth have been arrested against those evading their arrest. While quoting people Syed Ali GeelaniSaid that though people of the town,in their complaint tried to seek some kind of justice, instead the police allegedly while denouncing their plea strike back saying, that even though the strike continues , none of the arrested youth would be released until they pay ransom and won’t stop crackdown against youth. Chairman Hurriyat Conference expressed his grief and while lamenting at pro-Indian politicians for their baseless claims about their representative character and added that they are maintaining criminal silence over present situation and encouraging police. While talking with deputation from Shopian ,Syed Ali Geelani in his assurance to the people, said that he is worried about the prevailing situation in town. Syed Ali Geelani added that Kashmiri people have ever since boycotted the state celebration on August 15 and January 26 and added those people attending these celebrations are enemies and betraying Kashmir causeand people won’t show their regard for the persons attending said celebrations. Syed Ali Geelani warned district police and asked to desist from their folly against common man or face people’s resentment. While stressing for immediate release of arrested youth ,Syed Ali Geelani said that we are keenly monitoring situation in Shopian and if state policedoes not change its mindset and stop excesses against the people then we cannot stay silent against the state terrorism.
