SRINAGAR: A cloudburst has hit Kargil town of Ladakh region in Jammu and Kashmir. Whether there are any casualties is not immediately known. Police officers have told FreePress that water has entered residential houses. They said a rescue operation has been started. Roads of Kargil town and 434-km strategic Srinagar-Leh highway have been blocked. Communication links have also been affected. Further details are awaited. Three years ago in the same month (August), flash floods and landslides in the the region killed nearly 200 people and affected tens of thousands. The floods destroyed bridges in and around Leh town and blocked roads for days together.
