SRINAGAR, Oct 26: A militant commander was killed and a civilian injured in an encounter between the militants and forces in south Kashmirs Shopian district today. A joint team of army, police and CRPF on the inputs about the presence of militants cordoned off the Hussainpora village of Zainapora this afternoon. As the forces started searches the militants in an attempt to flee came out of a house and opened fire on the forces triggering an encounter, reports and officials said. They said that during the encounter which continued for few hours one militant was gunned down while another militant managed to flee. The forces, reports said, continued the search operation till late evening but failed to locate the associate of the deceased militant. The deceased militant has been identified as Mohammad Abas Reshi alias Abid of Alishpora while the civilian injured in the exchange of fire has been identified as Ghulam Ahmad Parray. The injured civilian, who received bullets in thigh has been shifted to hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable.
