SRIRAM KANNAN S POSTING im msvtimes The MASTERS strike back!!! This time with a steadfast song, that would challenge any composer with its swiftness, timing and the language. With the instruments available at the time the song was composed, and with the technology that requires the complete recording in a single take, a similar song would require hardcore practice and a perfect orchestration. Though Vaarayen Thozhi Vaaraayo from Paasa Malar is very much quoted for the rigorous practice and the synchronization handled during the recording, I can say this song would take no less. These songs would definitely take our imagination to how the masters worked for the song, with every musician involved and the singers, to give birth to a child that starts hopping the very first moment. I havent seen this movie, the one among the MGR-Sarojadevi hits, Pallaakku Vaanga Ponen being the show hit. I remember seeing this song long ago, during childhood, and with vague memories now. But, our MDs did an excellent job, filling the missing thoughts with their everlasting music. PS-LRE pairs in the song, but actually opponents in the play. No wonder our MD praises them high in his list, every thought of the composer had been put into exact visualization, through their sweet voices. One could feel the wave of competition between the groups, the desire of victory for their side, and the struggle to achieve it, by just hearing to the song. https://youtube/watch?v=OW06rE0MmRg The beats of the drum, marking the start of the game, and with the Sadu gudu Sadu gudu voices raising up with marked swiftness, PS starts with the song, the first group raiding their opponents. LRE, opens next, with the mock ringing in her voice facing the girl entering her ring. The breathless Sadugudu and Tho Tho chants continue after every singer finishes the line, the singers raising their pitch for the next time, opening the game with great expectation. The percussions keep hopping throughout the lyrics, maintaing the pace in the song, like every player in the ring moving around without a pause. A sudden stop and the revival of the music would easily make us guess that it is the opponents raiding. The Sadugudu chants continuing breathless, slowing down and stopping with a gasp, a player being caught and moved out of the ring, the drums raising up in a swift motion and beaming around. The interlude composes of flute, followed by accordion, with the flute hopping over like the girls in the ground, with accordion joining us to the next raid. The first charanam, starts with the boasting of the team members, teasing each other, the Sadugudu chants continuing throughout, the speed maintained all over. The music cycle repeats again this time, another girl caught and out, the suspense raising. The second charanam is the continuation of their mockings, with ThoTho and Sadugudu chants alternating now. The flute does a hop, matching the Tho Tho chant, the final charanam beginning with only the Tho Tho chants and the singers delivering the tonguetwisters with the speed picking up, LRE finally taking a series of breaths and stops, while PS continuing, the Tho Tho and the drums raising to maximum, ending up the climax. The way the last charanam was recored is splendid. The way of bulid up, PS and LRE handinge the lyrics with the chorus ringing between every lyric. The lyrics is too good, a good try for persons to work on their Tamil speed. Chorus : (Tho Tho) LRE : Kadalila kuyil onnu uruluthu peraluthu, karu karu vizhi onnu kurunagai puriyuthu... The same lyric, repeated more faster... Chorus : (Tho Tho) LRE : Udalila kandaangi minunghuthu kulunguthu, odivantha kuthirai elaikuthu kalaikuthu.. and a series of slow breaths!!! Now, PS starts stepping upon a drum beat.. PS : Vanathila maan onnu mayanguthu kalanguthu, pasi konda puli onnu padungthu odunguthu... Repeated again, more faster!!! Chorus : (Tho Tho) PS : Puli kitta maan vanthu adaikalam kekkuthu, pudikuthu kadikuthu elumbaiyum murikuthu.. (and the last word repeated raising the pitch...) Chorus : (Tho Tho), raising high and high, with the drums accompanying.. A STANDING OVATION TO THE EMPEROR!!!! Thanks and Regards, Sriram Kannan.
