In the US, President Barack Obama said the government was considering ordering more careful screening of airline passengers arriving from the region. In dealing with potential Ebola cases, Obama said, we dont have a lot of margin for error. Already hospitalised in the US, a critically ill Liberian man, Thomas Duncan, began receiving an experimental drug in Dallas. But there were encouraging signs for an American video journalist who returned from Liberia for treatment. Ashoka Mukpo, 33, was able to walk off the plane before being loaded on a stretcher and taken to an ambulance, and his father said his symptoms of fever and nausea appeared mild. --------------- Ebola may only be present in a few African nations, but fears over the crippling outbreak are infecting economies across the continent and may put its envy-inducing growth prospects at risk, experts said Monday. It is as if Ebola was transmissible to countries rather than individuals, Carlos Lopes, executive secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa - which promotes economic and social development of the continents nations - told AFP on the sidelines of a forum organised by the OECD in Paris. The outbreak has battered some of the continents most booming economies and many at the International Economic Forum on Africa fear that at a time when Africa is basking in the glow of galloping growth, the economic infection could spread. The epidemic is centred in mainly three west African nations - Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea. -------------- The US military is flying Apache helicopters against Islamic State rebels in Iraq for the first time, exposing US troops to greater risk from ground fire as they help Iraqi forces battle the Islamist group that has overrun parts of the country. US troops flew helicopters against Islamic State fighters on Sunday and again on Monday as they struck at mortar teams and other units near Fallujah, said a spokesperson for Central Command, which is responsible for US forces in the Middle East. This was the first time rotary wing aircraft were used in co-ordination with and in support of ISF (Iraqi Security Force) operations, Army Major Curtis Kellogg said in an email. The Iraqi government asked for support with this capability near Fallujah to push back [ISIS]. US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the helicopters that were used were Apache attack helicopters.
