#SSU #POWERTAINMENT Punk rock band Green Day, rockers Nine Inch Nails and singer Sting are among the 2015 nominees announced on Thursday for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They lead a diverse list that includes The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, the late singer Lou Reed, German electronic group Kraftwerk, Motown singers The Marvelettes, and The Smiths, who broke up many years ago. Artists are eligible 25 years after the release of their first record for induction into the Hall of Fame, which was established in 1983. Rock and roll incorporates the styles of so many different kinds of music and thats what makes this group of nominees, and this art form, so powerful and unique, Joel Peresman, the president and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said in a statement. ----------- The decades-long friendship between Microsoft founder Bill Gates and former chief executive Steve Ballmer has deteriorated so badly that the two no longer speak, it has been claimed. A detailed profile of Microsoft in Vanity Fair - written following interviews with senior executives at the company - says enmity has grown for more than a decade. Gates and Ballmer are both aggressive personalities, the articles author, Bethany McLean, writes. They stopped speaking to each other as a result of the bad blood surrounding Ballmers resignation. Mr Ballmer resigned as chief executive of Microsoft earlier this year. The pair were once incredibly close, and Mr Ballmer was best man at Mr Gates wedding in 1994. Mr Ballmer was made chief executive in 2000, but said in the profile that he didnt feel completely in charge until Mr Gates left the company in 2008. The profile claims that Microsofts acquisition of Finnish phone manufacturer Nokia was the final straw for their friendship. --------------- Human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin Clooney, fresh from her marriage to Hollywood heart-throb George Clooney last month, is heading to Athens to advise the Greek government in its battle to repatriate the ancient Elgin Marbles statues from Britain. The Lebanese-born Alamuddin, who married Clooney in a star-studded ceremony in Venice, will meet Greeces Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and Culture Minister Konstantinos Tasoulas alongside her boss Geoffrey Robertson, their Doughty Street Chambers said on Thursday. Mr Robertson and Mrs Clooney were first asked to provide legal advice to the Greek government on this matter in 2011. They will be holding a series of meetings with government officials during their stay, the chambers added in a statement. The pair will be in Athens from Oct. 13 to 16.
