STAGES OF THE EBOLA EPIDEMIC - Next Steps In an article that I recently wrote and circulated privately, I suggested the following: ...I propose that we divide the course of this Epidemic into a number of stages. Please see the table below: X Pre-Epidemic Normal Everyday life and practices 1. High Risk of Occurrence Reported in neighboring country. 2. First Suspected Case 3. Established Epidemic Most Difficult period with a lot of uncertainty 4. Plateau and Decreasing Cases Identified after the fact. Need reliable figures. 5. End of the Epidemic This is when the aircraft can land safely 6. Post-Epidemic Things return to a new normal. 7. Pre-Epidemic Preparing for the inevitable next epidemic. How do we do this? Figure 4.
