STANDING FIRM... Galatians has been called the Magna Charta of Christian liberty.. The problem that caused this epistle to be written was that the Jewish believers proclaimed a mixture of Judaism and Christianity...(law and grace) Paul had preached the free grace of God for all men through the death of Christ... The Judaizers claimed that Christianity could only work within the sphere of the Mosaic Law.... Faith in Christ, involving the free gifts of the Holy Spirit, was not sufficient...Obedience to the Mosaic Law which requires observance of festival days and the Sabbath, was demanded... This is the only thing I want to find out from you, did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by hearing with faith? Gal 3:2 You observe days and months and seasons and years, I fear for you that perhaps I have labored over you in vain. Gal 4:10-11 That self-same Gospel, which he had preached, and still continued to preach to the Gentiles relating to free and full remission of sin by the blood of Christ, justification by His righteousness without the works of the law, and freedom from ALL the rituals and bondage of the Mosaic Law - was ONE Gospel.... Paul did not preach one sort of doctrine to the Gentiles and another to the Jews but he preached the same grace Gospel that God revealed to him... The believing Jews were not ready to accept the doctrine of grace that freed them from the yoke of the law.... The false teachers had insinuated that Pauls doctrine was different from that of the apostles in Jerusalem, and so worked to pervert the Gospel he preached, and overthrow the faith of those that heard him... Had the Judaizers won, Christianity would merely have been a sect within Judaism.... But Paul did not yield in submission to them for even an hour... And with the skill and wisdom that God gave him, he vindicated Christianity on the sole basis of mans acceptance of Christ... Men are justified by the finished work of the risen Lord....and in no manner was it by rituals and ceremonies of the Law... It was for freedom that Christ set us free, therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. Gal 5:1
