STANDING STRONG By Lakan Mariano God said, You don’t believe Me? If you want Me to protect you, you must learn to believe what I say.” Isaiah 7:9, TLB God is always faithful to His promises. He will always keep His Word. What He had set out to do--the work of redemption, from start to finish--He will accomplish. I know that You can do all things, and that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted (Job 42:2). Many believers get frustrated not because God is unfaithful to His Word, but because they trust everything else but what God has already said. It is very common to hear, I just sense God wants me to do this, or I feel this is what God wants for my life. Except God is not bound to what we sense or what we feel. God binds Himself to what He has already said in His Word, in the Bible. When King Ahaz and the nation of Judah heard that Syria and Israel had come to attack them, their hearts were shaken, as the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind (7:2). There are things that happen in life that shake us. Our country is very troubled about the brutal killing of two American journalists by Isis, and there is great concern about security even in the United States. Cancer, loss of job, the betrayal of a spouse, rebellion of a child--those things shake us. Like Ahaz, we can be defined by our circumstances and our emotions and try to figure things out on our own. Or we can trust God. Trust what He has already said in His Word. Biblical faith is to trust and act on what God says in the Bible. The security of believers is not dependent on a change of circumstances but on faith in God, trusting His Word. If you want Me to protect you, you must learn to believe what I say.” Jesus said, My grace is sufficient for you (2 Corinthians 2:9). God said, I will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). The Apostle Paul tells us, He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6). Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son (Ephesians 1:4-6, MSG). God said through the prophet Isaiah, Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me (Isaiah 49:15-16). To stand firm in the midst of lifes raging storms, we must believe Gods Word. No matter the circumstances. No matter how we feel. Believers have the sure Word of God on which to stand. If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction (Psalm 119:92).
