STANTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Grover Barnett doesnt wait for his two children at the bus stop because its cold out, or too hot for them walk. He does it because he believes the walk from the bus stop to his home is too long and, therefore, too dangerous. We count and the kids that live up the rest of this road, they count too, Barnett said. Its a bigger issue than just my family. Barnett has had issue with the bus stop since he bought his home down Forge Mill Road in Powell County in 2012. Hes talked to state legislators, local elected officials, the school system, but the bus continues to turn.If they can bring combines and tractors down this road, surely to goodness they can bring a school bus, Barnett said. County officials said the problem with this Powell County road is it goes from thirteen feet where the bus stops, to eleven feet, where Barnett lives.WKYT talked to the Powell County superintendent, he said an eleven- foot road is too narrow for a school bus. But the superintendent said he is looking at the issue and even discussed it with the judge executive. Theyve made a deal that the superintendent will supply the judge with a list of roads they cant travel, and the fiscal court will see if theres funding to fix them. The one beneficial thing that may have come out of this is maybe a fresh look into the issue, said Judge Executive James Anderson. Maybe there is a lot more kids that will have the ability to have the school bus a lot closer and they wont have to walk as far.
