ODEN, ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER TERRY DUNN, ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER RESOLUTION Whereas, over the past several weeks, utility customers throughout Alabama have endured instances of severe weather, with the most recent involving a hard freeze statewide, and Whereas, these types of emergency weather occurrences can cause property damage, including ruptured pipes and damage from power outages, and Whereas, these occurrences often require immediate costly repairs, result in abnormally high utility bills, and place a great financial burden on many customers, and Whereas, many utility customers in Alabama are already strained by a difficult economy, and WHEREAS, showing leniency to affected customers will positively impact the economic recovery in the State and promote a sense of good will; now therefore Be it resolved by the Alabama Public Service Commission, that we encourage the utility companies to show extra compassion towards customers that may have incurred weather related damage to their property, and that we encourage the companies to evaluate customer circumstances on a case by case basis to determine possible billing actions to ease the financial burden during a difficult time.
