STATE OF EMERGENCY ENDS TODAY: the 60-90 days Public Emergency proclaimed by president Koroma on July 31, 2014 to enable government, development partners, Healthcare providers and the people of Sierra Leone take a more robust approach to deal with the Ebola outbreak ends today. The state of emergency was imposed in line with section 29 of the constitution of Sierra Leone, Act No. 6 of 1991,in responde to the Ebola outbreak which threaten to overrun the country. The proclamation restricted public meetings and gatherings, with the exception of essential meetings related to Ebola sensitization and education. It is however not clear what will be the next step of the president as Western Area combined has now become the epicenter of the disease, with a total of over 1,000 confirmed cases, followed by Kailahun, Bombali, Portloko and Kenema with 551, 547, 533, 485 respectively, with an overall national total of 3,793 confirmed cases, 778 survivors and 1,059 deaths. As the state of Public Emergency ends today, it is expected that new measures will be announced today night or over the weekend.
