STATEMENT FROM MR ADI HALIM, DIRECTOR OF THE HALIM GOUP ON THE REDEVELOPMENT A grossly misleading report in The Australian this week has caused some understandable concern amongst some of our supporters and customers about the proposed redevelopment of The Hotel Windsor. Let me assure you that the heritage aspects of this great hotel will be maintained and enhanced. Nothing will be done to diminish the heritage highlights of the hotel – The Grand Ballroom, the Atrium, the Lift and the Grand Staircase. There will continue to be heritage suites in the renovated hotel. Some timber beams and joists, concealed within the ceiling space, will be replaced to comply with Fire and Safety regulations and the Building Code of Australia which has changed since the Christchurch earthquake. Some walls will be removed to bring back the magnificent end-to-end corridors that were part of the original hotel. In many respects The Windsor will be much closer to its original form than it is today. We look forward to making The Windsor once again one of the world’s greatest 19th Century heritage hotels and will remain so for at least another 130 years.
