STATEMENT OF OIL CITY POLICE CHIEF ROBERT WENNER regarding the July 16 Peterson shooting. "First of all, these things take time. The investigation is out of our hands. I am comfortable with the investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police and the District Attorney. I welcome this introspection. I want the community to know that we have nothing to hide. And, when the investigation is complete, the community will have a complete picture of the incident. The community can be assured that there is no bias in this investigation. I arrived at the scene moments after the incident. I am confident that my officers did what they were required to do. I am confident that my officers acted appropriately and followed the guidelines of the law. I stand behind my officers, and the use of deadly force was a last resort. It is always a last resort. The bottom line is he was justified in his actions. This is truly a tragedy. Unfortunately, here are times when the use of deadly force is required. There is no winner in this situation. Remember, everyone is affected by this. Everyone of my officers has been affected by this tragedy, and so are their families - as well as the community. The vigil was absolutely their right. It is one of the freedoms that we have in this country. I do want to add that we have received e-mails and texts from numerous people supporting our department. Numerous people have asked how they can show their support for us. Our job is to protect the community. We have and will continue to serve the community with the same passion and dedication. @STREAMNEWS1 or oilregionlive or titusvillepalive Please visit our friends at freevenangonews and freemercernews
