STATEMENT ON THE DEATHS OF KINGSBOROUGH ALUMNUS NYPD OFFICER WENJIAN LIU AND OFFICER RAFAEL RAMOS It is with deep sadness I confirm that one of the NYPD officers killed on Saturday, Officer Wenjian Liu, belonged to our family of proud Kingsborough Community College alumni. Officer Liu began his higher education pursuits as a Business major at the College of Staten Island in 2001, subsequently transferring to Kingsborough in 2004, and graduating in 2006 with an A.A.S. degree in Accounting. He joined the NYPD in 2007 following time spent as an auxiliary police officer. Officer Liu, whose family migrated from Taishan, in Guangdong Province, China, was killed in a senseless violent act alongside his partner, Officer Rafael Ramos. Their deaths remind us of the sacrifices police and other law enforcement officers must make each day amid the gravity of situations that affect our society, while they protect the lives and livelihoods in our neighborhoods. The Kingsborough Community College family joins with the families of Officer Wenjian Liu and Officer Rafael Ramos in celebrating their lives while we mourn their deaths. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers are with their families.
