STATEMENT ON THE NEW EXAMINATION FORMAT FOR NURSES IN THE CARICOM REGION The General Nursing Council of Saint Lucia is the legal body responsible for the registration and education of the nurses to practice within Saint Lucia. The Council also has the mandate of supporting the process of setting and administering the regional examination for nurse registration in-country. Therefore, Saint Lucia is party to a regional standardized process of evaluating and qualifying all national nursing professionals. As of October 2014, this is being done through the oversight and guidance of the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) and with input of nursing experts regionally. This ensures consistency across of all CARICOM member states in qualifying candidates who attain the requisite performance qualification. With this involvement if CXC the methodology of examinations have been reviewed and modified in part. This has resulted in the examination being re-formatted to two papers, each consisting of one hundred multiple choice questions. Though the performance standard has been maintained there has been some change to the passing scores to be attained by candidates. This passing score reflects the level of performance required for a candidate to successfully pass the examination -Chairperson of the General Nursing Council of St.Lucia, Nurse Lucia Lee
