STATEMENT ST. GEORGES, GRENADA, Friday, November 01, 2013 - GIS: THE OPPOSITION in Grenada has been seeking to make an issue about talked-about increases in salaries of ministers. When public servants received their increases in May, government ministers currently in office automatically received the same increases. It must be noted that the increases were also retroactive to 2009 – and were negotiated under the previous government. Under the arrangement – former ministers such as former Prime Minister Tillman Thomas and former Finance Minister Nazim Burke – have qualified for the retroactive payments for the period in which they served. The current ministers do not qualify for those payments because they were not in office in the period that was negotiated for. Current ministers have not received any increase outside of what was negotiated under the previous administration.
