STEM UNDERWATER ROBOTICS OPPORTUNITY! Des Plaines Valley Council is diving deep into Underwater Robotics! Join our new Underwater Robotics team to earn STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) merit badges and Nova awards. Through this hands-on experience, Scouts will gain a greater understanding of STEM principles and robotics, use creativity and innovation to create their own device, and apply it in the field to explore an aquatic environment. Scouts in this unit will explore the underwater world while strengthening their STEM skills and learning how to build an underwater ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle). This new scouting unit has a serious time commitment and will meet on Tuesdays, from 8 – 9:30 PM. Meetings will take place in the LaGrange area from November 12 – May 13, 2014. The Underwater Robotics Unit will compete in the Shedd Aquarium ROV Club Competition on March 24, 2014 and in the Marine Advanced Technology Education ROV Competition on April 27, 2014. Life or Eagle Rank Boy Scouts or Venture Scouts are eligible to participate. Registration deadline is Friday, November 8th and space is limited so register today! Cost is $75 and includes educational materials used throughout the year which include a lesson binder, a flight training helicopter and a uniform shirt. Register at the Council Service Center.
