STEREOTYPING AFGHAN WOMEN If there is one nationality, which is most misunderstood, it is the people of Afghanistan, especially its women. Western world has an image of helpless, discriminated and covered image of Afghan women. But those, who have interacted with women of Afghanistan ( Pashtun, Tajik, Hazara), they will vouch that Afghan women are very strong and opinionated person. It is true that Afghanistan is a patriarchal society, but then most of the world is too. Despite all odds, Afghan women have been at the forefront of nation building. Women are now part of the work force in all fields of government and administration in Afghanistan. Afghan women from Afghan diaspora in other countries have made valuable contribution in the cultural development of host nations. Afghan community in India, especially those who have Pashtun ancestry are among most educated and sophisticated communities of India. These Indo-Afghan women are active in cultural sphere, politics, science and technology and business. May be its time, that western world change the way it looks at Afghans.
