STEVIE & ROWDY 11-9-2014 Stevie is a blind Quarter Horse who was bred & raised by the Arkansas Department of Corrections as a prison guard horse then auctioned off when he became blind. He was purchased for $35 by a Kill Buyer in 2012. He was unloaded off a Kill Buyers truck after being injured by sighted horses when some Kind Souls paid $100 to save his life. Rowdy Yates is a Choctaw Mustang who lived as a feral horse in the mountains of the Ouachita National Forest in the remote southern portion of our county. In 2011, he and two others ended up on the property of an elderly home owner whos daughter was concerned for the horses welfare & asked for assistance to remove them to safety. The Triple O is home to six blind horses with the first one, Lakota Woman arriving in 2007. It has been our policy not to put blind horses in a position to have to compete with the sighted horses. With so much of horse communication being visual, we feel that they are at a disadvantage having to compete. But that does not mean they are isolated from the Sighted Ones. As you see, through the fence Stevie does quite well competing with Rowdy. The equine herd dynamic has been my favorite topic of study for decades. I could sit and watch horses interacting and just being horses 24/7/365 and never-never-never ever tire of it
