STILL ON A VIOLENCE FREE 2015 GENERAL ELECTIONS As the February 2015 general elections draws near, the political atmosphere has become tense with several parties flagging off their campaigns. It is rather unfortunate that restiveness and electoral violence is akin to elections in Nigeria over the years except for a few cases. Speaking with journalists on the 2015 elections and other National issues, Hon Dr Chris Ekiyor, Commissioner for Commerce and industry, Delta State and President Emeritus Ijaw Youth Council worldwide has commended the federal government for organizing a workshop for a non violence free elections in Nigeria. This is a right step in the right direction and a roadmap to peaceful elections devoid of the widespread unrest that have trailed most elections in the country. The signing of the agreement by all the presidential candidates and political parties has shown total commitment and their willingness to safeguard non violent pre and post elections issues, he went on. Nigerian youths as future leaders must stand up now to correct the conception and move from being used as electoral tools for violence and Rigging to change agents that will propagate peace and harmony in elections. The Nation cannot afford to loose our youths from election related matters each time we have election in Nigeria, the commissioner reiterated. The belief and hope in most quarters is that the 2015 elections will play out in our history as a model where politicians will accept the outcome of elections given the template of free, fair and credible election by INEC.
