STILL ON FINANCIAL IMPUNITY IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS IN DELTA STATE We are not serious people, earlier this week Ifeanyi Onochie said so much about financial impunity in all the local government in the State. Very few people made any comment. I must state clearly that progress and development must start with the local governments that are closer to the people. It is unfortunate that Barrister Pius Ewherido had to pass on at this critical point in the development of our dear State. He is one man who could have brought sanity to the polity in Delta State where financial impunity has taken over the entire State, especially at the local government level. Why can’t the Governor call the Council chairmen, Treasurers and HPM/DPM to order from the outright theft of public funds? Where are the Auditors? How come that to purchase newspaper for an officer can cost as much as two hundred thousand naira in a month? What is the quantity of newspapers to be bought and read in a day? Uduaghan try and do something and do it urgently. The revenue accruing to the local government is not meant for the workers but the citizens of the area. You are expecting votes from NULGE for now so why can’t you discipline them.
