STONEWALLS DAUGHTER Absent soon forever, her mind lays down and wakes farther on the journey. She forgets to eat, wash, but not sleep. The bottoms of her feet are black scales of unwashed cells slough off onto sheets. Over five months, pantry becomes stocked with air refrigerator same, since daughter stocked it full. Meds forgotten, she hovers, sinks, hovers, makes do, survives, prefers the privacy of deprivation to strangers helping intrusion, as her mind confused convinces she is bathed, full, in control. A fall will come, the break, and silence. Her body stubbornly lives on. She will not yield until crisis prevails. She will drive my sister insane. She will go marching into her grave.
