STOP ABUSING ME, JONATHAN WARNS GOVERNORS President Goodluck Jonathan has asked governors to stop abusing him, urging them to focus on their mandate of developing their respective states. The president said this at the State House in Abuja yesterday while receiving an Anambra State delegation led by Governor Peter Obi. According to the president, it was in the best interest of the state governors to have a good relationship with the federal government. The president said fighting him would not enhance the development of any state. “A number of politicians feel that the best thing to do is to be abusing Mr. President, abusing the Federal Government and so on. You are elected to develop your states. I think the best thing is to have good relationship with the centre. Whether you have a pin or you don’t have, but one day, it will come. Wearing boxing gloves, jumping into the boxing ring to face Mr. President does not help the development of any state”, he said. The president, who commended Obi for maintaining a good relationship with his administration, said the bond between the federal government and Anambra State was irrevocable. He said: “In terms of the bond between us and the Anambra people; that is irrevocable bond. I consider myself one of you and you’ll also take us as your own son. I don’t want to be described as a friend or brother of the Anambra people, but I want to be described as a son of Anambra State because the relationship you’ve had with me over the period”. Speaking further, the president described the current security challenge in the country as temporary and transient, saying that by God’s grace, the nation would soon get out of it. Earlier while speaking on behalf of the delegation, former Health Minister Professor A.B.C. Nwosu told Jonathan that the country was facing challenging times. Members of the delegation included Professor Ben Nwabueze, Senator Ben Obi, Professor Chukwuemeka Ike, Arthur Eze, Josephine Anenih, Willie Obiano, among others. SOURCE: Daily Trust
