STORM BATTERS ENGLAND.... tosh. Storm in a teacup more like. The uber dramatisation of everything is getting out of hand. If the forecasters would care to look at the Beaufort Scale we had small branches torn from trees, twigs also torn from trees. The trees had 70% of their leaves still on so it was to be expected. I went for a walk this morning with Ruby anticipating having to walk around The Lye fields and not anywhere near trees because of the dangers. Not so. Walked through loads of trees on the Lye and golf course. OK, the tops of some Silver Birches had come off - but they were dead anyway. One Douglas Fir had a branch torn off - but it was behind the green all on its own and the prevailing wind would have come up the fairway with nothing to interrupt it. So, a gale is what we had. Anyone remember what happen in the Autumn in this country? We get Autumn Gales..... NOT BL**DY storms - with a rare exception or two. I think this is Elfin Safety gone mad. Warn them that it may be very windy then nobody can sue the Met Office if they suffer some damage. AND I bet the majority of planes grounded at Heathrow were BA planes - thi s from experience when I used to fly regularly. If BA were grounded because of the weather I just used to go to British Midland with my ticket and they (and everyone else) were flying!
