STRATFORD HALL: Creating, or adding to, a garden can be a daunting task. Where do you start? Are native plants best and why? What plants will attract birds or wildlife to my yard? How can I use less pesticides? What do I plant and how do I create a design? Anne Little from Tree Fredericksburg will help you answer these questions and help you with your gardening challenges. She will take you step by step through the process of garden design and plant selection. There will be a focus on native plants and trees and the benefits to wildlife from native plants. Little will also address planting for storm water control and helping to preserve our rivers and streams with plantings. Ann Little and her husband, Carl, are co-founders of Tree Fredericksburg. Tree Fredericksburg is a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring the urban forest in the City of Fredericksburg. Tree Fredericksburg works with volunteers to plant trees along the streets and in the parks every year in the city. Little is chair of the Fredericksburg Clean & Green Commission, which liaisons with city staff and city council to fund and support urban forest initiatives. Since 2008, Tree Fredericksburg has planted over 3,000 trees in downtown Fredericksburg and has a goal to plant an additional 6,000 trees in the next ten years. In order for Ann to help with the personal planning purposes of registrants, they are encouraged to bring a photo of their yard or a drawing of their yard plat for reference.
