STRENGTH FOR THE WEEK By Dr. Emeka Mbelu Dealing With Fear Matthew 26:36-38 “Then Jesus came with them to…Gethsemane…” NKJV) Fear by itself is not sin, but the way we respond to it can become sin. Jesus’ response to a very frightening situation should be our example when dealing with fear. He did not allow His fear of enduring the wrath of God to lead Him into sin (1John 3:5). He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed…(Matthew 26:39). Jesus did three things here that we need to emulate: 1. Jesus went a little farther… This means that He separated Himself from His friends. In critical situations the very first thing to do is to avoid everything that would distract, and get alone with God. 2. Jesus fell on His face, and prayed. Prayer is the weapon that God has given us to use on earth against the forces of evil. It is an indispensable weapon of warfare for every Christian. 3. Jesus said, “…not as I will, but as You will.” This is total surrender to the will of God! God knows the end of all things even from the beginning. Next time you feel afraid, get alone with God, pour out your heart to Him in prayer, and trust Him to bring deliverance to you speedily! Call upon me in your day of trouble, and I will answer you… (Psalm 50:15). With God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEK!!!
