STRIKE UPDATE - ASUU strike: Baptist Church calls for truce •As Ondo students appeal to ASUU, FG Written by Yinka Oladoyinbo - Akure Monday, 02 September 2013 04:05 The Ondo State Baptist Conference has joined Nigerians and other organisations to appeal to the striking lecturers and the Federal Government to resolve their differences in the interest of the nation, just as the National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS) has urged the Federal Government and ASUU to shift ground and end the protracted strike embarked upon by the union. The President of the Baptist Conference, Reverend John Oladapo, said this while addressing newsmen to herald the 2013 conference in session of the church, which starts today. He said it was imperative for the Federal Government and the agencies in the education sector to find a lasting solution to the crisis. According to him, the nation would not make any progress when the education sector is in comatose. On the political scene, the clergyman called for a review of the democratic structure, saying the present system was too expensive. He said there should be a review of the “expensive democratic structure to make funds available for critical developmental projects with positive impact on the lives ofNigerians”. While congratulating the stategovernor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, on his victory at the Supreme Court, the church advised the governor to settle down with more commitment to the goal of delivering dividends of democracy to the people.
