STRINGS ATTACHED - PART 4 I have the privilege of hunting on a ranch in South TX, deep in the heart of the brush country. One thing I quickly noticed about the vegetation down there is that almost every shrub and tree is filled with thorns or thistles. It didn’t take me long to realize that if I rubbed up against one of these plants, they would quickly rub off on me – and the result is always painful! They have their way of leaving a “mark” on you if you get too close. On the road of Life, there will be many “thorns” and “thistles” along the way. They are called problems, situations, dilemmas, relationships, and sin. You will find that many of the things in this world that you allow yourself to rub up against will soon rub off on you. You will also find out (if you haven’t already) that there really no such thing as “No Strings Attached”. Every situation that you allow yourself to come involved with will have the potential of leaving a mark on you in some way, shape or form. Some might be short-term marks and easy disposed of. Others may be long-term and could affect you for a lifetime. You can wander into the woods. You can wander into weight gain. You can wander in financial debt. But you cannot simply wander your way out - You have to really discipline and apply yourself. Likewise, you can wander into sin, but you cannot just easily wander out on your own. Habits stick to you like a South Texas thorn. You will have to learn how to call on the name of The Lord. The deeper you allow yourself to wander into sin, the more attached to the world you become, and the harder it is to disassociate yourself from it. But never fall for the lie that it is impossible: Matthew 19: 26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
