STRONACH CONTINUES HIS DOMINANCE OF THE WA SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP AT ROUND TWO. What a weekend of motorcycle racing we enjoyed on June 1st, on the world stage we saw probably the best MotoGP race certainly in living memory and locally at Round 2 of the Weld West State Superbike Championships we witnessed some great racing across the day, with the highlight being the three Superbike races with some great pressure racing from Cameron Stronach, Ralph Mammoliti, Anthony McFadden and Ben Stronach. The day dawned overcast with some early rain causing a bit of concern amongst the riders, but by the time practice commenced the track had all but dried and the weather settled to slightly overcast. The race event order was changed for this round with the Cully’s Clubman 600 kicking off the day, followed by the Fastline GP Racing 125GP and then the traditional event opener the Swift Windscreens ‘B’ Grade Series, then after the lunch break the Superbikes started the afternoon proceedings. In each of the three Weld West Superbike races Ralph Mammoliti (Trakdayz Kawasaki ZX-10) got the holeshot making for plenty of action from the rest of the field. It should be pointed out that all the front runners benefitted from the enforced absence of Adam Senior, who suffered a work place accident during the week and was unable to ride despite trying on Friday but it proved to be physically impossible. He is hopeful of a return at Round 3 on the 15th June. Mammoliti and Cameron Stronach (MyCarebook BMW S1000RR) swapped the lead early in the race and from there Stronach was untroubled. Mammoliti held Anthony McFadden (MyCarebook BMW S1000RR) at bay, finishing 4 seconds behind Stronach with McFadden just over a second further back in third place. Ashley Fleming (Rick Gill Motorcycles Suzuki GSXR1000) was the first ‘C’ grader to finish in twelfth place overall. In the second race again it was Mammoliti who shot to the front early with Stronach and McFadden trailing behind, but like the first race Stronach caught and passed him relatively quickly and went on to record his fifth straight win of the season with McFadden also getting the better of Mammoliti who came home in third place. Steve Chittendon (Rockingham Powersports Honda CBR 1000RR) took the ‘C’ grade honours, coming home in thirteenth place. The final race once again saw Mammoliti get the early break and as in the previous races Stronach quickly made the passing move but unlike the first two races Mammoliti stuck with him and constantly challenged for the front position finally holding him at bay to take the win by 1.4 seconds with McFadden third, and Ben Stronach (Hold Fast Hydraulic & Ind. Sol Kawasaki ZX-10) taking fourth place. Adam Parsons (Kaneg Honda CBR 1000RR) took the ‘C’ grade honours for the third race with his ninth place overall finish. Cameron Stronach is emulating the world championship standings with six straight wins and 150 points, second is McFadden on 114 with Mammoliti third on 113 points, Ben Stronach is fourth on 100 points with Lubi Safranek fifth on 91 points. Adam Parsons leads the ‘C’ grade championship with 119 points from Steve Chittendon on 112 and Nicky Weightman third on 101 points. In the Rockingham Powersports Supersport Championship Thyron Van Vuuren (SP Racing Kawasaki ZX-6) took an easy win in the first of the three races with second placed Adam Chambers (H.T.R. Yamaha R6) coming home 2.2 seconds in arrears and third was Tony Keogh (Penrite Oil Yamaha R6). First round pace setter Sam Clarke was fourth having machine problems early he had borrowed the bike belonging to Dillan McDermott and was struggling to come to terms with a bike he had never ridden before. The second race saw a reversal in the first two placings with Chambers winning by just .3 second from Van Vuuren with Tim Boujos (JB Racing Yamaha R6) third over 4 seconds in arrears. The final race and Van Vuuren again took control right from the start and was never troubled with Chambers 3.2 seconds behind at the chequered flag with Livio Zampieri (MyCarebook Triumph Daytona 675) third 1.9 seconds further back. Chambers retains his championship lead by 2 points over Van Vuuren 128 to 126 points with Clarke third on 112 points. The Supersport ‘C’ grade championship lead is held by Andrew Biffen on 119 from Jack Twisse on 113 and Raj Sarin third on 97 points. The Fastline GP Racing 125GP Championship saw Scott Pettit (Oban Boats Honda RS 125) take three wins on the day in what was a trouble free day for him the minor places were filled by David Doughty (Fastline GP Racing Honda RS 125) and Graham Jeanes (Colonial Freightlines Honda RS 125). Doughty was second in the first race with Jeanes third and those two places were reversed in the final two races. Nathan Smith (John Thompson Honda RS 125) picked up three fourth places for the day. Graham Jeanes leads the championship on 123 points from Pettit on 113 and Smith in third place on 106 points. The Armadale Rental Cars Sidecar Championship saw five outfits on the grid. First round leader Jero Joyce/Corey Blackman were the notable absentees, Joyce was on holiday at the Isle of Man which was pre- arranged a year previously but will return in a fortnight for round three. Murray Stronach/ Darryl McLeod (My European Holiday Suzuki 1000) took the win in the first race with Phil Brown/Dillan McDermott (Armadale Rental Cars Suzuki 1000) were second and the Formula 2 outfit of Mickey Robbins/ Juston Winchester (Armadale Rental Cars Kawasaki 600) were third. In the second race Brown/McDermott took a hard fought win from Stronach/McLeod with the father son pair of Rod/Darryn Walker (Yamaha 600) third. The final race saw Brown/McDermott take their second win for the day from Stronach/McLeod with Des Harvey/Gary Cushnahan (Murphy’s Tyrepower Watson Honda 600) third. In the Championship point’s standings Stronach/ McLeod lead with 105 points, second are Brown/McDermott with 88 and third are Robbins/Winchester on 86 points. The leaders after the first round Joyce/Blackman have slipped to fifth with 50 points. In the Swift Windscreens ‘B’ Grade Series race the red flags came out after a crash and a complete restart was ordered and from the start Chris Brown (Honda CBR 1000RR) won the six lap journey from Leigh Boujos (Kawasaki ZX-10) with Glenn Lowe (Relines Australia, VRT Yamaha R1) taking the minor placing. After two of five rounds Boujos leads on 45 points from Brown also on 45 points and Lowe on 35 points. The Cully’s Clubman 600 saw three riders dominate the top three placings with Chris Martin (Edge Australia Honda CBR 600RR) winning the first and the third races and coming home in second place in the second race. Andrew Biffen was second in race 1 and then went out and won the second race of the day and in the final race he came home in third place. Adrian Calitz (Kawasaki ZX-6) was third in each of the first two races and then went one better in the final race taking the runner-up spot. Martin won the day with 70 points, Biffen was second with 63 and Calitz was third with 56 points. The Chain Reaction Clubman 1000 was similar to the Clubman 600 in that three riders dominated the top three placings all day. In the first race it was Mike Howden (SBK Racing Aprilia RSV4R 1000) who took the win over the six lap journey. Second was Dean “Deano” Martin (garagevert BMW S1000RR) and third was Enzo D’Alessandro (SBK Racing Honda CBR 1000RR). The second race and Dean “Deano” Martin took the chequered flag from Howden with D’Alessandro again third. The final race and D’Alessandro won the six lap journey from Martin and Howden. The points score for the day was first Dean Martin with 65 points, second was Mike Howden with 63 and D’Alessandro with 61 points. Round three will be run on 15th June with practice from 9.00am and racing from late morning.
