STUDENT Analysts & WRITERS NETWORK C/o UNIVERSITY OF MAKENI with a massive exploitation of Sierra-Leone natural resources,and looking at national development so far, this intelligent analyst and writer AHMED SHEKU FAROH, asked a critical and fundamental question on where Sierra-Leone is heading to, been the Athen of West Africa Before. Please think about it, and make your comment. WHERE SIERRA-LEONE IS HEADING TO? We are told according to history this beautiful place called Sierra Leone gained independence on the 27th April 1961. That is over fifty years ago and there is a proverb which says a fool at forty is a fool forever is Sierra Leone one? A small country with less than eight million people. Could we blame our present situation to that of colonialism? I personally disagree because when Sierra Leone became a crown colony in 1808 and later merged in 1821 with the Gambia and Gold Coast (present-day Ghana) suffered the same problems. The country is having more than ten naturally viable resources, vast and fertile land, one of the best natural harbours in the world, vast rain forest and talented people but yet there are problems. In those days, the country was referred to as the Anthem of West Africa in terms of education. Today, it is the reverse. Are the SLPP and APC our problems? I will think differently. Why, because there is no democracy in the world that exist without political parties. The USA referred to as the father of democracy has two major political parties the Democrat and the Republican move from there go to the United kingdom they have the labour and the social democrat parties. So you see why I deviate from your thinking? To be candid our problem is attitude and the way we practise our politics. Will you agree with P.O.C Umeh when he referred to the political elites as “ambassadors of poverty” “The corrupt masters of the economy- with their head abroad and anus at home, patriots in the reverse order.” Indeed we have many ambassadors of such in this country, say to yourself you will not be one. What is it that God has not given us? Why are we still poor? If we have all what it takes to make us rich? Where are we heading to let some people come and explain to the higher number of illiterates people who could not read nor understand the lies posted on face book, the internet, newspapers, and the high level of vocabularies on national and international radio stations.
