STUDENT OWNERSHIP OF EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES Its my view that we need to restore student personal responsibility regarding their own educational outcome. Its also my opinion that if a student doesnt come to school because they chose to (skip) it; then they need to own it ...rather than have their parents .. or shall we say.. co-conspirators .. call the school to cover up the fact that their child made a bad choice... This school message left on a school answering service is an example of the increasing frustration teachers, and schools are experiencing not only with students, but with their parents who have bought into the lets blame the teacher scenario. Sadly, we have entire communities which uphold the belief that their child is not responsible for refusing to engage in the educational process, that teachers have committed to provide. Strangely the world seems to be unaware that teachers chose this role because they love teaching, and want to make a positive difference in the lives of their students. However, theyve entered into the teaching scenario at the wrong time of history because they are perpetually blamed for the bad choices of their students, and as a result teachers are also blamed for the negative outcome that appears on a students report card. Own it people! If you choose not to go to school and get bad grades as a result of refusing to attend school then you need to own the outcome! Do not begin to blame the teacher for your failure to attend school because I promise that your future employer is not going to buy into these ready made excuses that blame them for your decision to refuse to attend work. Trust me, when I say that those within the legislature who created the idea that teachers are to blame for every bad grade a student receives created a nation of children who fail to grasp their own role in their success, or failure. They lack personal accountability for outcomes they created, and we are paying for it as we speak. We will continue to pay the prices until we stand up as parents and demand that our children listen to our wisdom, experience, and concern that we know better and that they will do their part to earn their success. Yes, I said EARN, because nothing is given to us without effort on our part, and whining about it does not change anything, but to keep your child on the path of making the same mistakes over and over again with the crazy notion that things will have a different outcome when we know better. Furthermore, it is my view that a bad teacher is no excuse for failing to do your part as a student; because when you are on the job, you can count on running into: 1. Bad bosses 2. Bad colleagues 3. Bullys 4. Being under paid 5. Over worked 6. Unfairness and more. And believe it, when I say that absolutely no one is going to accept your excuse, that these were the reasons why you didnt come to work to do what they paid you to do because its their sandbox and they control the shots. You are either going to be a part of the team that drives the success of your employer, or you are dead weight they toss to the curb and replace with someone else willing to come to work without making excuses. So, enjoy the humor folks, but please appreciate the frustration that teachers experience when blamed for something that is not their fault because no one ever likes being blamed for something they didnt do said no one ever. Thank you for thinking, and have make sure to have a great day! Belinda xo https://youtube/watch?v=MOnoSA-iazo
