STUDENT PATHWAYS OPTIONS FOR BUILDING YOUR SKILL BASE GATEWAY Gateway is run as a fully timetabled subject at levels 12 and 13. Students prepare for the world of work by undertaking theory units supplied by the various Industry Training Organisations. In addition, students attend a work experience placement one day per week. The Gateway classes have a restricted entry so all applicants are interviewed to assess their readiness for work and commitment to their chosen occupation. Contact Mr Watts or Mr Moore for further details. TRADES ACADEMY The Academy is a partnership between Taranaki Secondary Schools, WITT and Industry. It is a Trade Skills theory and practical course held one day per week at WITT. A large number of Trade Courses are available and these can be viewed on the WITT website – wittworks.ac.nz To be eligible to attend Trades Academy students must have achieved a minimum of 60 credits at NCEA Level 1, have a genuine interest in one of the academy training areas and have approval from your school and parents/guardians. As spaces are limited, students need to apply and go through an interview process before being accepted. Contact Mr Moore for further details. STAR The school offers up to 30 different STAR courses each year. These courses are designed to enhance a students’ knowledge or skill in line with their career plan or vocational pathway. Most STAR courses have NCEA credits attached. Contact Mr Moore or Mrs O’Connor for further details. HERE’S A TIP In many instances Work Readiness includes having a Drivers’ Licence at least at the Restricted level.
